A GLASS OF RAIN (NEW!)
SEARCHING FOR CLOUD NINE
SAY WHAT YOU MEAN

THE LAKE ‘CROSS THE WAY
IT COMES FROM LOVE
SHE'S GOT HER WAY
SIGN HERE, PLEASE
IN LOVE WE TRUST
GET A LIFE

IT DON'T ADD UP
THE WIND IS GONE

A GLASS OF RAIN

Verse:  Soon I won’t see this smoky sky
Ain’t gonna hear feet hittin’ concrete as the subway roars by
Been livin’ in a stone tower, hidin’ behind bolts and chains
Goin’ to the country to drink a glass of rain

CHORUS:   Where doors are wide open as a field of grain
The sky looks bluer every day
Neighbors share homemade pie after they pray
Gonna be a refreshing change, like drinkin’ a glass of rain

Verse:  This big jade mirror won’t go in my new home
Nobody cares what you buy, country life ain’t about what you own
I’ll take my chances with nature, plan my days around the weather vane
Gonna trade my champagne for a glass of rain

Repeat Chorus

Bridge:  My family tree was planted here a long time ago
I wanna put down new roots away from this neon glow

Repeat Chorus

SEARCHING FOR CLOUD NINE

Verse:  Living somewhere between reality and my dreams
Happy enough, but not bursting at the seams
Trying to pass the point where everything’s just fine
I was stranded without wings Searching for Cloud Nine

          Someday I’d:

CHORUS 1: SING TILL THE MOUNTAINS ECHO ME
LET THE WIND CARRY ME HIGH
RISE UP LIKE MIST FROM THE SEA
                 FLY STRAIGHT TO CLOUD NINE

Verse:   Waiting for a saint to show me what I’m meant to do
Hoping someday I’d hear the words, “I love you”
I needed a plan for life, some kind of grand design
A lightning flash to free my soul from Searching for Cloud Nine

Repeat Chorus 1

Verse:   Found the answer in the twisted remains of my jeep
Wove two wings for this life I’m blessed to keep
Soaring through each day on earth as if it were divine
I clothe and feed people in need who are Searching for Cloud Nine

           And now I:

Chorus 2:

sing till the mountains echo me
LET THE WIND CARRY ME HIGH
RISE UP LIKE MIST FROM THE SEA
           I’m livin on cloud nine

SAY WHAT YOU MEAN

Verse: The gold locket in the velvet box says, “Forever in Love”
You whisper, “Happy Anniversary,” and kiss me on the cheek
You keep on buyin’ me fancy things to make me think you care
You can fool your friends but you can’t fool me
There’s no love in this life we share

Chorus:  WHY DON’T YOU JUST SAY WHAT YOU MEAN, MEAN WHAT YOU SAY
WE CAN’T ESCAPE THE SADNESS OF THE TRUTH ANYWAY
SAY WHAT YOU MEAN, MEAN WHAT YOU SAY
LET’S GET ON WITH THE CRYIN’ SO WE CAN FACE THE NEXT DAY

Verse:  We sit by the fireplace on separate sides of the room
You tell me I made you forget a woman you wanted to wed
You can’t seem to admit she’s still on your mind
It’s time to say those words we don’t want to say
We’ll be happy when we say goodbye

REPEAT CHORUS

THE LAKE ‘CROSS THE WAY

We played there as children, runnin’ ‘round the lake ‘cross the way
Dodgin’ mothers pushin’ strollers, and some tricycles gone astray
The whole time we were runnin’, felt the cool grass ‘neath our feet
Oh the moon pies and the clear blue skies made our lives feel so complete

After all those promises you took a job out East
Now I’m alone in our hometown with lakeside memories

I WATCH THE SPARROWS FLY OVER THE LAKE ‘CROSS THE WAY
IMAGININ’ YOUR LAUGHTER, ANOTHER TIME, ANOTHER DAY
THOUGH WE PROMISED THAT OUR LOVE WOULD GLOW JUST LIKE THE SUN’S RAYS
YOU CHOSE A DIFFERENT PATH AND WENT YOUR SEPARATE WAY

We held hands as teenagers, walkin’ ‘round the lake ‘cross the way
Sharin’ kisses on the park bench, and all the sweet words we could say
Oh we talked about our future, tossin’ bread crumbs to the geese
But leavin’ town meant more to you than buildin’ a life with me

REPEAT CHORUS

IT COMES FROM LOVE

Verse: His touch eased the pain of people leaving this life
He was on call till one day his hands closed tight
His dreams are on hold ‘cause he’s got a sickness to fight
He has the will to go on and it comes from love

Verse:  He longs for a house with land where his son could play
And though he knows his disease is here to stay
He keeps his spirits up for his wife and son most days
He has a glimmer of hope and it comes from love

Chorus:  IT COMES FROM LOVE THAT CALMS THE ROUGHEST OCEAN
             LOVE’S MELODY HOLDS US NEAR
IT COMES FROM LOVE - A FAMILY’S DEVOTION
THERE’S A PATH THROUGH THE PAIN AND IT COMES FROM LOVE

Verse:  His wife went to work when he no longer could
She took some leave, thought her bosses understood
Now she can’t pay the bills ‘cause they sent her home for good
She gets by on faith and it comes from love

REPEAT CHORUS

SHE’S GOT HER WAY

Verse:  She folds her shirts in neat little piles
I leave a trail on the floor for miles
She spends an hour on her makeup and hair
I shave and shower with time to spare
            Each of us is one-of-a-kind
She’s got her way, I’ve got mine

Chorus: SHE’S GOT HER WAY, I’VE GOT MINE
EXCEPT FOR OUR DIFFERENCES WE GET ALONG FINE
PUT US IN A ROOM AND WATCH THE SPARKS FLY
SHE’S GOT HER WAY, I’VE GOT MINE

Verse:  She likes to deal till she finds an ace
I’d rather run till I reach home base
She picks her fights very carefully
I tell my boss to go climb a tree
We’re in love, that’s the bottom line
She’s got her way, I’ve got mine

REPEAT CHORUS

Bridge: When it’s time to compromise we both love to win
It’s a game like tug-of-war ‘til someone gives in

REPEAT CHORUS

SIGN HERE, PLEASE

Verse: The bank was the last stop on his list of chores
He caught her rays of sunshine when he walked in the door
He leaned on her desk and asked, “Will you go out with me?”
She said, “Yes - if you’ll sign here, please.”

Chorus 1: SIGN HERE, PLEASE - RIGHT ON THE DOTTED LINE
THE NEXT STEP YOU TAKE CAN CHANGE YOUR LIFE
THERE’S NO TURNING BACK WHEN THE INK IS DRY
               IF YOU’LL SIGN HERE PLEASE

Verse:  They filled out the form for a license to wed
A long, white dress and flowers danced around in her head
A smiling clerk told them,“ Dot your i’s, cross your t’s”
“Good luck to you.  If you’ll sign here, please.”

Repeat Chorus 1

Verse:  He held their little miracle who cried and kicked
On the birth certificate she wrote the name they picked
The nurse said, “Before too long it’s time for ABC’s”
“Enjoy your baby.  If you’ll sign here, please.”

Chorus 2:  SIGN HERE, PLEASE - RIGHT ON THE DOTTED LINE
THE NEXT STEPS YOU TAKE CAN CHANGE HIS LIFE
THERE’S NO TURNING BACK WHEN THE INK IS DRY
                IF YOU’LL SIGN HERE PLEASE

Repeat Chorus 1

IN LOVE WE TRUST

Verse:  There goes our home with everything we own
The river came and carried it away
Wedding pictures, Grandma’s silver, tiny baby clothes
But we will get through this day

CHORUS:            IN LOVE WE TRUST
                         GOD SPARED US
                         WE’LL FIND A PLACE THAT’S RIGHT
TUCK OUR FAMILY IN EACH NIGHT
                         IN LOVE WE TRUST

Verse:  Our kids crawl out of quilts on the church floor
Their voices are filled with fear and doubt
Where will we live, what about food, does this mean we’re poor
We tell them we’ll figure it out

REPEAT CHORUS

Bridge:   Who thought we’d have to rebuild our lives
No matter what happens we will survive

REPEAT CHORUS

GET A LIFE

By Eileen Bernstein and Kathleen Stanley ©

Verse:  Susie walks in the office and the whispers start

“That skirt’s too short, did it come from Kmart?”

Joe grabs a donut from the box he brought in

“Wouldn’t you know he’s off the diet again”

Prechorus:   Each mornin’ I face the office gossip machine

What if I stood up and said, “Hey, listen to me--”

CHORUS:  GET A LIFE - I USED TO BE LIKE YOU

THEN I LOOKED AT MYSELF, SAW WHAT I HAD TO DO

                GET A LIFE

WHEN THINGS AIN’T RIGHT, I FOUND, IF I’M PUTTIN’ FOLKS DOWN

WHAT GOES AROUND, IT COMES AROUND

                SO GET A LIFE

Verse:  Neighbors stare at Katie’s latest love at the pool

“He’s twice her age, Katie must be a fool”

“Ya see his clunker out by the pool gate?”

“We hear he’s loaded but he’s such a cheapskate”

Prechorus:  The rumors fly, they never seem to end

Don’t you wanna say, “Excuse me, I don’t mean to butt in, but--”

Repeat Chorus

Bridge:  They say, “act your age,” “wear the clothes they’re wearin’ on TV”

What we all really need is friends who let us be.  So tell ‘em -

Repeat Chorus

IT DON’T ADD UP
By Eileen Bernstein and Kathleen Stanley

Verse: You stopped at Lord and Taylor for your Momma today
Guess you didn’t think I’d peek at the stuff
Since when does your Momma wear a size 5 negligee
Your Momma and pink satin: it don’t add up

Prechorus: You did ninety-seven crunches in the cellar last night
Are those new Italian pants you been wearin’ a bit too tight?

Chorus: MAN PLUS WIFE DON’T EQUAL THREE
YOU ONLY GET ONE, AND IT’S NOT ME
SO PACK UP YOUR LIES IN YOUR PICKUP TRUCK
‘CAUSE I DID THE MATH AND IT DON’T ADD UP

Verse: Took your shirt to the cleaners and found a receipt
For the night you met the guys at Bo’s Pub
So which buddy had the crepes at Café de Paris
Escargots and rednecks: it don’t add up

Prechorus: I heard you in the carport talkin’ dirty on your cell
So take your lame excuses, and you can go to -- a hotel

Repeat Chorus

Bridge: Go on and have fun with your uptown honey
But a downtown lawyer will soon be countin’ your money

Repeat Chorus

THE WIND IS GONE

By Eileen Bernstein

Verse:  My friend Tammy showed me red and gold leaves outside her hospital room

She said, “Don’t worry, got lots of life in me.  I’ll see another Fall”

Four years later Tammy sang, “Go Rest High” when she lost baby Drew

When I asked how could she stand it all, she said, “I try to recall….”

Chorus 1:  “The harder the wind tries to blow you around,

The deeper you put your roots in the ground

Just when you think you can’t hold on

God says, “I am here,” and THE WIND IS GONE”

Verse:  A cloud of drifting snow, ice on the road sent Tammy’s car into a spin

Now she’s settin’ in a wheelchair, handin’ out Christmas gifts at Eldercare

People like Tammy seem to make it through every storm that comes in

She’s got lots of love to share, words of comfort and prayer

Chorus 2:  The harder the wind tries to blow us around,

The deeper we put our roots in the ground

Just when we think we can’t hold on

God says, “I am here,” and THE WIND IS GONE

Bridge:      It’s hard to stand up like an oak when you feel like a reed

After each twister you pick up your faith from the dust and debris

Repeat Chorus 2
